Marketing Your Handyman Business With Audio Interviews

Jassen: OK, as a compliment to special reports anybody that really knows you and I, knows that we are big fans of doing audio.

James: Evidenced by us being on the phone right now.

Jassen: Exactly, but for a handyman that wanted to maybe do a step up from a written special report because I think a CD or something like that has greater impact you know in terms of value how can a handyman go about producing an audio CD about a problem or something they can use as a widget for their marketing?

James: Well, I mean there’s a wide range of that, I mean you could go all the way up to going into a studio and recording it and by the way we’re not in a studio, you don’t need to be in a studio-

Jassen: Yeah we’re on the phone tonight.

James: -you don’t need to have that level of work. Yeah, we’re on the telephone but the thing you can do as a handyman is what you can do is you can actually take a little voice recorder and most cell phones, mobile phones now have some type of voice recorder that you can record on or you can go down to Office Depot, Office Max, Staples or whatever your choice is and you can buy a voice recorder from there for $50.00 bucks or something like that and you can actually go and walk through a house or walk through a kitchen that you are about to do repairs on and just start talking into the microphone or maybe get your friend in the room so you can actually talk to someone and you don’t have to them talking in the background just pretend that you’re talking to them and record it and say “Look when we go do this kitchen these are some things that I’m concerned about.” And you start telling the story about some of the kitchens you’ve did where you’ve had nightmares with stuff and you know someone else tried to do it themselves and it ended up costing them $5000.00 more because you had to go fix all the things they screwed up and you know you go through that whole thing just telling a story to your friend in the room and you record that, maybe it’s 15 minutes maybe it’s 20 minutes, maybe it’s an hour and then you can go burn that to a CD and if you don’t know how to do that ask any high school kid and they’ll do it for you and-

Jassen: Right.

James: -they can go put it on a CD for you and there’s places online that could have those produced for easily $1.00 per CD and if you buy 50 of them you’ve got more than enough for a while and then instead of handing out your business cards you market and you say look I’ll give you a CD on “tips and traps of remodeling your kitchen” or “how to walk through a rental property and know what needs to be done for your tenant” ” listen in as an experienced handyman of 20 years says – you know walks through a rental property and tells you know all the things that needed to be done and things to check for when you’re getting the house ready to rent.” Things like that that have great value will get prospects on your list and then you can warm them up over time and convert them to paying clients.

Jassen: Right and let me tell you from personal experience handing somebody – oh, here’s a copy of my CD instead of oh, here’s my business card the impact or the impression you leave with that person is you magnify 10/100 fold over a business card.

James: Absolutely.
