In the last couple of years as the real estate markets cooled significantly many handyman businesses have felt the pinch–and that is putting it nicely. Some handyman businesses have gone completely out of business because of the decline in activity in the real estate market and especially lately as discretionary spending has been reduced by a large number of people.
But during that same period of time, some handyman businesses have thrived. Why? Or, more appropriately… how?
I ran a network of about 280 real estate investor websites that primarily focused on analyzing potential real estate deals and then put real estate investors in touch with licensed real estate agents and brokers and directly with sellers of properties. As I ran the network of websites I was contacted by other service providers like painters, mortgage brokers and handyman business owners asking me if we had any work and to recommend them to the investors on the site.
Over time the system for letting handyman businesses post their contact information on our website at no cost as long as they also listed our contact information on their website evolved. Many, many handyman businesses listed themselves on our website.
Some got business from it. Others did not. Why is that?
- A large part of it was the message they were using on our website.
- Another part of it was any additional information they had on their website when a potential client wanted to learn more about them before calling.
- Part of it was how the handyman business handled any inquiries.
So, what is a handyman business to do to market themselves?
Right now, we do offer a free audio program called Handyman Marketing Primer that anyone who joins our mailing list can download. In that audio there is some great information on how specifically to market a handyman business.
Plus, we do have an entire Handyman Marketing Course available with our Business Bronze Membership which includes ways to market your handyman business for free using on-line tools and direct response marketing strategies.
I would strongly recommend downloading the free Handyman Marketing Primer course and then considering using those strategies as a stepping stone to taking your handyman business to the next level with the Handyman Marketing Course.
Until my next post,
James
