Using Pingdom To Measure Website Response Time

PingdomFor those of you that have not noticed we recently switched over and starting using WordPress to manage the content on the new Learn To Be Rich website. Shortly after we made the switch I started to notice that the website was not quite as responsive (quick to load) as it was before we made the change. Could this have been caused by something with our web hosting provider, was it a problem with the new website itself, could it be something else or could it be a combination of several of these?

Well, I was wondering the same thing myself so I looked around to find a tool that I could use to at least measure just how responsive my site actually was–numerically–over a period of time and I found Pingdom.com to do that. Being able to measure it will allow me to test changes over time to improve overall site responsiveness.

As you can probably see in the image, Pingdom’s free service allows you to check your website to see just how responsive it is from a variety of web servers around the world. You can see how quickly folks around the country are able to access your website.

The service will also notify you if your particular web hosting account goes down completely by emailing you and/or sending you a text message. This can be helpful if you are relying heavily on your website for income… once you get a notice, you can call your hosting provider immediately to try to limit the overall downtime.

If you are running any type of website, I think you’ll find a tool like this pretty helpful in helping you stay abreast of any outages your web hosting provider may have and helping you learn if your website is responding slowly.

Until my next post,

James
